Overcoming Cancer with Happiness

I was incredibly happy to get this message on the Bullfrog Spas Facebook Page last week:

Hi – Bullfrog Spas along with Joe DiDomizio from Aqua Play Pool and Spa in New Rochelle – donated a Hot Tub at less than cost to my 7 year old daughter who was diagnosed with a Malignant Brain Tumor on January 3rd. What Bullfrog Spas and Aqua Play Pool and Spa have done for my daughter is soooo amazing. I thought you may want to put it on your website – since I think it is the most amazing thing anyone could ever do! Thank you xoxoxo ~ Debbie Ferretti

Aqua Play Pool and Spa, a Bullfrog Spas Dealer in New Rochelle, NY, generously helped Jaimie, a 7-year old battling a brain tumor, to achieve her dream of having a hot tub. The bulk of the leg work and the cost for bringing Jaimie her spa was absorbed by Aqua Play and owner, Joe DiDomizio. Bullfrog was honored to be able to work with Joe and Aqua Play to reduce costs on the spa to a minimum to help make this a reality.

I couldn’t possibly write this story and what it means to this family any better than Jaimie’s mom, Debbie, did herself so here’s their story in her words:

My 7 year old daughter, Jaimie has this glass jar in our kitchen that she puts all her money/change in to save for the things she wants the most.  Back in January of 2011, Jaimie started to save for our trip to Disney World in October.  Jaimie was able to save $150.00 in her little jar which she used to buy all her goodies while in Disney.  After our trip to Disney in October 2011, Jaimie decided her “Disney” jar would now  become her “hot tub” jar.   She wasn’t far into her savings when our story begins:

On the morning of January 3rd my 7 year old daughter Jaimie was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor.  The next morning she went through 14 hours of surgery to remove her brain tumor.  After two long weeks in the hospital Jaimie left the hospital to finish her recovery at home.

When Jaimie came home from the hospital my husband and I thought that we should look into the possibilities of getting Jaimie her hot tub after all she had been through.  After shopping around we realized that it was not in our  budget to give her the hot tub.  That is when the magic begins.

Now, Jaimie, who was adopted by my husband and I at birth is the light of our lives.  I still remain close with her birth-mother.  After speaking to Jaimie’s birth-mother, Rachel and telling her the story of Jaimie’s wish to have a hot tub and how we were not able to make her wish come true.  Rachel decided to do a fund raiser to help make Jaimie’s wish come true.

The fundraiser took off and people were amazingly generous with the donations. Unfortunately still not enough to help us get the hot tub our daughter so desperately wanted.  We figured we would just use the $ raised for our tremendous medical bills.

That is where Joe from Aqua Play comes in – my niece contacted many many spa companies and stores for their help in getting my daughter her hot tub.  Many said they would give us their hot tub wholesale, but we still were not close to the $ amount needed.  And then she spoke to Joe – Joe along with Bullfrog agreed to take whatever dollar amount we had raised and get my daughter into her hot tub.

On June 10th, 2012 – my daughter’s wish came true and her hot tub was delivered by Joe and his amazing team. This hot tub has been the best thing for my daughter. She sat and stared at her hot tub all day, waiting for it to finish filling up.  After not being able to wait another second, my daughter climbed into the hot tub before it was even filled.  The water was 65 degree’s and she was sitting in it with pure joy!  The very next day Jaimie had to undergo a 4 hour MRI where she would be put under anesthesia.  Having this hot tub delivered the day before her MRI was the best distraction my daughter could have.

We left for the hospital the next morning at 6:30 am and would return home at 5:00 pm with a very groggy Jaimie still recovering from the anesthesia.  Upon our arrival home, Jaimie perked right up and asked if she could go in the hot tub.  My husband and I were a little skeptical of letting her go in the hot tub while still being a bit groggy from the anesthesia, but how could we NOT let her go into the tub that she has wanted since she was 4 years old. We let her in the tub an hour after coming home and it was the best thing we could have done for her.

This hot tub has been such a HUGE part of Jaimie’s life since it was delivered and really has been amazing in her healing and helping her forget the arduous MRI’s she will have to undergo every three months.  (Thankfully Jaimie’s MRI came back clear in June). Jaimie’s birthday is October 4th, but this year we are celebrating it in August as she can’t wait to show all her friends her new hot tub and let them enjoy it the way Jaimie does.Jamie enjoying her Bullfrog hot tub

I can’t even put into words what Joe, at Aqua Play and Bullfrog Spas has done for our family.  My family was so torn apart by my daughters illness and it is amazing how this hot tub has brought us so close together again.– The entire family is enjoying this spa and it is the BEST family time we have.  My 7 year old daughter, my 11 year old son and my husband and I now all sit in the hot tub and share our stories of the day!  I can’t even begin to thank all of you for sharing something so wonderful with us, that has truly changed the dynamics of our family in the most positive of ways. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I don’t even know what to say to Joe and Bullfrog Spas…simply AMAZING!!

Love to all of you!

The Ferretti’s – Dan, Deb, Daniel and of course Jaimie!!
