First, let’s talk about dimensions. In most cases, a small swim spa can start out around eight feet wide and twelve to twenty-one feet long. You’ll notice that it’s significantly bigger than the average large-size spa, and smaller than the average small-size pool. In many ways, a swim spa is a transitionary option for people who are looking to buy something between the two.

It acts as both pool or a large spa, but at twelve feet long, can be fit into a relatively small yard that might not otherwise be able to hold an actual pool. The average 12-person hot tubs are going to most likely be extra large hot tubs or swim spas. They are around 12 feet long and eight feet wide, which would leave it holding somewhere in the ballpark of 1,260 gallons of water. You’ll want to keep that in mind when considering your options for chemicals and filtration systems.
How Much Does a Twelve-Person Hot Tub Weigh?
Weight is a key factor if you are considering putting a large hot tub, or any size, on a deck or other structure that’s not necessarily solid ground. Regardless of the size of the hot tub you choose, you should always check with a structural engineer when placing a large feature somewhere that is not specifically built for that feature. Especially when it comes to hot tubs. The combined weight of the spa, filled with water, and then human bodies can become significant and safety should always be considered.
The dry weight of a swim spa is likely to be around 2,000 lbs., and filled weight is closer to 13,000 lbs. Don’t forget to add in the weight of the people!

This is tricky, because every swim spa is different. They’re generally designed rectangularly to allow for space for one person to swim against a potential current. This means there is likely to be bench seating along the sides, and possibly jet seating in the corners or on the ends.
