There are things you should do in your hot tub and things you definitely shouldn’t do…
The great thing about hot tubs is that everyone can enjoy them – whether you’re old or young, anyone can find an escape, relaxation, and pure happiness in the swirling warm water with massaging jets. Ahhhhhhh!
That said, there are certain hot tub activities that are approved and others that are nothing but trouble; the list of “hot tub dos and don’ts below is both your guide to bathing bliss and a warning against, well, stupidity.
DO: Rest and Relax
DON’T: Fall on Your Face
If you’ve done too much relaxing in the warm waters, you might find that your muscles are so loose that they won’t work as fast as your brain would want them to. If your body is in a deep state of tranquility, mind your motor skills when getting out and DON’T fall on your face!
DO: Create a Little Romance
DON’T: Drink Too Much
Because the warm water in a hot tub may cause your blood vessels to dilate, it can increase the absorption of alcohol into the blood and ultimately magnifies its intoxicating effects – you get drunker, faster, in a hot tub. That can have serious negative health effects. Knowing this, don’t drink it the hot tub, but if you absolutely must, drink much slower than your normal pace and DON’T get so drunk that you can’t perform basic bodily tasks.
DO: Enjoy the Company
DON’T: Dive
This really shouldn’t even require an explanation but diving head first into three feet of water is never in your best interest, ever – no good can come of it. If you value your teeth and brain function in the least, brush twice daily, floss regularly and DON’T dive into a hot tub.
DO: Look at the Stars
DON’T: Crank Up the Thermostat
Nobody likes a lukewarm hot tub but you should never get too trigger happy with the thermostat. In fact, heating the water past recommended settings can strain your body and put you in great danger; therefore, monitor the temperature and DON’T put yourself at risk by cranking up the heat beyond the safe zone.
DO: Keep Your Water Clean
DON’T: Belly Flop
While diving has already been discussed as taboo, at least in relation to the shallow waters of a hot tub, there is one acrobatic act that is expressly and strictly forbidden. Intelligent individuals might make this a general rule as it pertains to any type of pool or spa diving, but whatever you do, DON’T belly flop into the hot tub!
