Hot Tubs to the Rescue at the Polar Plunge

Bullfrog Spas supports Special Olympics charity benefit, supplying 2 hot tubs for warming shivering swimmers.

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – Bullfrog Spas is proud to have sponsored the 2014 Polar Plunge, a benefit for the Special Olympics. The Saratoga Springs Polar Plunge event was held at the Pelican Bay Marina, on frozen Utah Lake near Bullfrog International headquarters.

thick ice at the polar plungeThe Polar Plunge is an entertaining event that is also not for the faint of heart or weak of constitution. Daring swimmers don crazy costumes of all types and garner pledged donations with a promise to jump into an icy lake and swim for charity. The lake venue for this event had to be cleared of nearly 8 inches of solid ice with the help of a chain saw and picks a few days prior to the swim. Ice, which continued to form on the open water, had to be skimmed several times just prior to the event.

Bullfrog Spas offered support by placing 2 large hot tubs near the edge of the icy lake. Swimmers can use the spas to reheat after their bone chilling swim. The hot tub is heated to around 100 degrees and, although it’s a bit of a shock to the system, is a welcomed site for chilled swimmers.

do-it-all-the-way

In addition to the swim, the event features a crazy costume contest, spin-the-wheel of prizes, music, food donated by local restaurants and grocers, along with a raffle for a host of donated prizes. It is attended by numerous local residents who donate and help support Special Olympics even if they aren’t quite crazy enough to jump into the frozen lake.

The Polar Plunge features both individuals and corporate teams. These generous people come together to do something a little stupid, but it all goes to raise money that goes directly to Special Olympics. The event is hosted by the Saratoga Springs, Utah and Lehi, Utah police departments.

This year’s Saratoga Springs Polar Plunge was, held Saturday, February 22nd. It is one of several Polar Plunge fundraisers held around the world to benefit Special Olympics and give athletes of all abilities the opportunity to compete and succeed in their athletic aspirations. This is Bullfrog’s fifth consecutive year sponsoring the event.

There more Polar Plunge events upcoming so it’s not too late to participate. For more information on becoming involved in Polar Plunge events and the Special Olympics visit: http://www.specialolympics.org/Calendar/Polar_Plunge.aspx.

Fighting Cancer with Frogs and Hot Tubs

Bullfrog Spas shows support for cancer research by fielding team for Relay for Life, a charity to benefit the American Cancer Society

Bullfrog Spas will be participating in the Relay for Life, a benefit for the American Cancer Society on July 13 and 14. The relay event itself is located at River Front Park in South Jordan, Utah, just a few miles from the Bullfrog Spas headquarters and factory.

Relay for Life is a charity event organized to benefit cancer research and outreach. Individuals and corporations commit to raising funds and circling a track non-stop to commemorate those lost to cancer and to show strength to those now battling the disease. As one or more team members walk, the other members of the team camp out around the track and all take turns walking laps throughout the night.

Relay for Life began in 1985 when Dr. Gordy Klatt, a Tacoma WA colorectal surgeon, decided to run for 24 hours to raise awareness and funds for his local American Cancer Society. Today, inspired by this early all-night and all-day run, Relay for Life events are held across the nation to raise money for cancer research and awareness.

Team Bullfrog SpasSean McKinney, Director of Manufacturing at Bullfrog Spas, along with Patti Mahon, Bullfrog Executive Administrative Assistant, have been leading the company-wide efforts to raise money in fun and creative ways. Bullfrog has held contests, played games, charged good-natured fines for misspoken comments at meetings, and has provided some rather interesting contests to get company executives and managers to do all kinds of craziness when donation goals are reached.

Bullfrog is still a little short of reaching our goal. We want to raise around $2,000 dollars more before the event. Please help if you can.

Bullfrog Spas Helps Thaw Polar Plungers

Hi-Tech Hot Tub Company Helps Thaw Frozen Swimmers

Bullfrog Spas provides hot tub to help swimmers warm up during the Polar Plunge, a benefit for the Special Olympics.

couple thaws in hottubSalt Lake City, UT – Bullfrog International, manufacturers of innovative hot tubs, was proud to sponsor the 2011 Polar Plunge on Saturday February 12. The event encourages brave swimmers to leap into icy waters for charity and was held at Pelican Bay Marina in Saratoga Springs, Utah. The Polar Plunge is put on by the Saratoga Springs Police Department to raise money for Utah Special Olympics.

Bullfrog Spas provided a working Model 662 hottub heated to around 100° F to help participants warm up after their brave swim. As one can imagine, the warm portable spa was an especially welcomed addition to the event.

Incredible Hulk couple jumps in lake then hot tubBoth individual participants and teams worked to gather pledged donations in support of their willingness to jump into a frigid lake. The event helped to raise thousands of dollars to benefit the Special Olympics of Utah. Lyn Rees, of Utah Special Olympics, commented to local media, “It is a unique opportunity for individuals, organizations, and businesses to support local Special Olympics athletes by jumping or slowly crawling into the frigid, icy waters.”

The theme of the event was “We’re freezin’ for a reason!” and the smiles everywhere showed that this was a fun event and a great cause. Local eateries donated donuts and hot dogs to both jumpers and participants and a local coffee shop donated free, and much needed, hot coffee and hot chocolate.

One of the favorite features of the event was the costume contest. Teams and individuals donned attire ranging from classics like the Wizard of Oz and Incredible Hulk to some futuristic costumes from the movie “Despicable Me.”

Chain saws and a backhoe were necessary to create an opening in the ice and safety divers had to periodically toss ice chunks off to the sides to maintain open water. This was Bullfrog’s second year sponsoring the event and the Bullfrog Spas Model 662 was a great hit once again. This 6-person hot tub was often overfilled with appreciative swimmers needing a warm-up after their swim.

5 Compelling Ways a Hot Tub Can Help With Your New Year’s Resolutions

Hot Tubs Help Millions Achieve Their Health Goals for 2011

Scientific studies by health experts indicate several key areas where hot tubs and hydrotherapy can help people to reach their goal of improved health and wellness.

Salt Lake City, Utah, December 28, 2010 – The goal of improved health is the most common of all New Year’s resolutions. With 2011 fast approaching, millions of people are vowing to improve their health but secretly worrying about how they will do it.

Scientific studies by the National Aquatics and Sports Medicine Institute, located at Washington State University, and others are showing remarkable health benefits associated with warm water hydrotherapy in hot tubs. Bullfrog International LC, manufacturers of innovative hot tubs with the patented JetPak System of spa jets, has released a list of 5 ways hot tub therapy can help individuals improve their health this year.*

1.    Hot tubs can lower blood pressure. In studies performed by the National Aquatics and Sports Medicine Institute subjects experienced decreased blood pressure when immersed in water of all temperatures. However, the effect of lowered blood pressure was shown to last much longer for those who soaked in a hot tub.

2.    Hot tubs improve heart and circulatory health. Water immersion helps the circulatory system to operate more efficiently. This effect can be beneficial to all people and is especially helpful to individuals who experience decreased circulation due to diabetes and other ailments.**

3.    Hot tubs improve joint health. Spending time in a hot tub can decrease pain and help improve flexibility by decreasing the effects of gravity, increasing blood flow, and by lessening the pull of tight muscles on sore joints.

4.    Hot tubs improve muscle health. Soaking in a hot tub loosens stiff muscles and reduces soreness. The increased blood flow to the muscles, experienced while in a hot tub, also aids in healing after injuries and recovery after intense workouts.

5.    Hot tubs improve nervous system health. One of the reasons hot tubs feel so relaxing is because they actually balance the opposing functions within the nervous system – the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems. Hot water therapy reduces the effect of the sympathetic nervous system, which is the major cause of harmful stress. The positive effects of hot water therapy on the nervous system have actually been observed long after the individual actually leaves the water, showing that hot tubs help produce long term benefits that include lowered stress, relaxation, and a sense of well being.

Additional hot tub health benefits continue to come to light as physicians and scientists, especially in the area of Sports Medicine, perform studies on hot tub therapy. Individuals interested in the health applications of hydrotherapy can keep up to date by following the National Aquatics and Sports Medicine Institute (NASMI) along with hot tub health updates posted by Bullfrog Spas on their hot tub blog.

The science seems to show that a hot tub is likely to be one of the best investments that an individual can make in achieving their goals of health, wellness, and overall happiness for 2011.

To learn more about hot tub hydrotherapy and the health and wellness benefits a hot tub can provide contact Bullfrog Spas today.

*Information regarding health benefits of hot tubs is collected from studies performed, cited, and reported on by the National Aquatics and Sports Medicine Institute.
**Always consult a physician before using a hot tub, especially if you have any of the following: high blood pressure, a heart or lung condition, are or may be pregnant, have diabetes or if you experience any other serious health condition.
